US blacks jailed at higher rate for drugs than whites: report
African-Americans are arrested and imprisoned for drug-related crimes at a much higher rate than white offenders, even though whites commit more drug offenses in the United States, a rights group said.
A black man is 12 times more likely to be sent to prison for a drug offense than a white man, according to a Human Rights Watch report titled “Targeting Blacks: Drug Law Enforcement and Race in the United States.”
A black woman is five times more likely to go to jail for a drug crime than a white counterpart, said the report, which is based on a review of statistics in 34 US states.
In 16 states, including Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland and New York, blacks are sentenced to prison for drug offenses at a rate 10 to 42 times higher than whies.
“Most drug offenders are white, but most of the drug offenders sent to prison are black,” said the report’s author, Jamie Fellner, senior counsel in the US program at Human Rights Watch.
Not all “drug offenses” are the same. Possessing a gram of pot is a “drug offense,” and dealing crack cocaine is also a “drug offense.” It’s just that blacks are far more likely to commit the more serious kinds of “drug offenses,” and more likely to commit the ones that result in prison time.
If one would adjust for the specific drug offense, then one would probably find that whites are more likely to go to prison than blacks. Especially rural whites, where a “hanging jury” and/or a “hanging judge” (which there are a lot more of in white rural areas) would send a drug convict to prison for an offense that would not draw prison time for a black convict in the black/liberal cities with its black juries and black/white lib judges.

The Post-Dispatch dug deeper into the life of Charles Lee “Cookie” Thornton. Among the highlights:
* The Meacham Park annexation that black residents were/are supposedly so upset about, that resulted in the Kirkwood Commons shopping center, the one that some would have us think resulted in the seething pot of resentment that sparked, the shootings, is one that Thornton supported. He thought he would get some destruction and demolition business for this “construction company,” and would have had it if not for the fact that he couldn’t demonstrate that he could actually do the work.
* Ironically, the reason Thornton got those multitude of tickets is that the city tax money generated from Kirkwood Commons was used to fix up what remained of Meacham Park. In that same spirit, the city started handing out tickets for code violations, many of those going to Thornton.
* But most of those tickets came before 2002. The city gave up on trying to make him behave via citations.
* Generally, Thornton was always hustling to earn a quick fortune. Because he had the Power of Attorney over his parents’ real estate, he took out as many mortgages and home equity loans as he could on them to finance his “construction business.”
The lesson remains the same. Liberal Kirkwood was hoisted on the petard of its racial pandering.

Following on the heels of the U.S. State Department’s repudiation of the term “Jihad,” the Washington D.C. Police Department and other city officials will no longer use the term “gangs.” Way to make the gang problem disappear. Of course, this is the same city that, last year, wanted to solve illegal immigration by making all the illegals legal.

Bill bars gangs from ’safety zones’
Gang members seen talking to one another or standing together on public property could be fined or jailed under a new bill being pushed in the Legislature and supported by some prosecutors and Boston police.
more stories like thisThe bill would give broad authority to police and prosecutors to bring civil lawsuits against reputed gangs or their members, forbidding them to hang out together in the neighborhoods and parks that police say they terrorize.
(snip)
Under the bill, suspected gang members would be barred from parks, neighborhoods, and other areas designated as “safety zones,” and police could order groups of three or more gang members found there to leave. The restriction, which would not extend to church or school events, would also impose a 10 p.m. curfew on gang members.
Good luck with that, Boston. You’re talking about people that have trouble obeying laws against murder, robbery, drug dealing, and so on. What makes you think they’ll cede to curfews and safety zones? Assuming that, and assuming that gang members are that easy in a legal sense to identify (gang laws often do not hold up in court, because of the nebulous and informal nature of black and Hispanic street gangs), why stop at a 10 PM curfew and only a few “safety zones?” Why not make a 24-hour-a-day curfew and make all of Boston a “safety zone?” Further, why not just round them up using RICO and state equivalents?
Similarly, I cringe whenever I hear one community activist or another calling for a moratorium on violent crime for a finite length of time. If they have that much power to stop crime for a month, why not make it forever?

Bloody Weekend: 32 Shot, 2 Stabbed, 6 Dead
A violent and deadly weekend continues in Chicago. At least 12 people have been shot, two of them killed, since Saturday morning. Two others were stabbed in a home invasion. This comes after at least 20 people were shot, four of them killed, from Friday night through early Saturday.
A 28-year-old man was shot and killed at an auto body repair shop on the Southwest Side Saturday morning. Raul Lemus was shot in the stomach at 2520 W. 59th St. at about 11:20 a.m.
Lemus, of 4630 S. Talman Av., died several hours later at Stroger Hospital, making him the sixth person killed in Chicago since Friday night. Police said the shooting appeared to be gang related.
Also Saturday morning, Michael Giles, 26, was shot and killed inside his home at 336 N. Avers Av. Harrison Area detectives are investigating.
In another case, a suspect toting an AK-47 has been charged with murder and three counts of attempted murder after allegedly killing a man and shooting at police. Bennie Teague, 39, was denied bond in the case Sunday afternoon.
It’s amazing no one was hurt during the shootout between police and Teague, who was firing an assault rifle. Police say the gunman opened fire on them Friday night at 110th and South Union. They tracked him down after he allegedly shot and killed 34-year-old Marcus Hendricks inside a plumbing business a few blocks away.
(snip)
“To put the shooting in perspective, you have to consider this was a 17-hour window,” said Chicago Police spokesperson Monique Bond about the number of shootings.
Chicago police are now stepping up patrols in areas that they call “hot zones.” Police blame the warmer temperatures for the spike in violence.
“We know that we’re approaching warmer weather, the summer season. We know that this is going to be a very busy season for the Chicago Police Department. There’s no doubt about that,” Bond said.
Yep, one long hot summer in Chicagograd. And keep in mind that summer is warmer than spring — so this means that the “32 Shot, 2 Stabbed, 6 Dead” that was a nightly occurrence in April will be an hourly occurrence in July. But be of good cheer. Maybe one of these years, Chicago’s gun ban will work. “Hot zones.” I wonder if these zones have something in common. Also get ready for the gang mitigation industry to pass the taxpayer collection plate around.
Likewise, St. Louis had a relatively exciting weekend in this stead. There were two different incidents of triple shooting victims. One of them resulted in all three victims being killed, while the other (IIRC) resulted in no fatal victims.

But it turns out a gunshot will.
The deed took place on Potomac and Spring in south city. The suspect is described like many of this city’s usual suspects are described (and actually are), a black man between 17 and 20. The victim’s family thinks that gang initiation was the motive.
Alderwoman Jennifer Florida blames area landlords for renting to criminals (as if a landlord is supposed to be a clairvoyant), and wants them to do criminal background checks on perspective renters. If they actually did that, Jen, the NAACP/Urban League/EEOC/DOJ/city black aldermen would have a fit. And, in this case, the suspect may not actually have been the contractual tenant of the domicile in which he lived.
The only slight silver lining to this cloud is that the perp shot a USPS letter carrier, which means the criminal proceedings will be in Federal court. If it were in state court in St. Louis City, the jury would probably be majority black, and the chances of race nullification would be high. Even though the Federal courthouse is also downtown, the jury pool can come from anywhere in eastern Missouri, meaning a whiter jury, i.e. a jury far more likely to consider actual evidence.
UPDATE 4/16:

The suspect is Adrian Mabry, 23, who lives near the scene of the shooting. His grandmother told the TV news yesterday that her grandson was a diagnosed schizophrenic and was off his meds. This probably means he lived with his grandmother, and it is highly unlikely that she was a convicted felon, so Alderwoman Florida’s proposal would have done no good. Mr. Mabry himself may not have a rap sheet. Still no word on motive, but since 23 is way over the hill for gang recruits, I doubt that the victim’s family’s theory is correct.
ANOTHER UPDATE, 4/16:
Mr. Mabry’s grandmother turned him in. He stole the gun used in the crime from said grandmother, because she works as an armed security guard. Which proves that she cannot be a convicted felon. He also moved to St. Louis and in with his grandmother from Chicago awhile back.

Parents Fight Over Which Gang Toddler Should Join
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — A couple fighting about which gang their 4-year-old toddler should join caused a public disturbance that resulted in the father’s arrest, Commerce City police said Thursday.
On Saturday, Joseph Manzanares stormed into the Hollywood Video store where his girlfriend worked, threatened to kill her and knocked over several video displays and even a computer, Commerce City police Sgt. Joe Sandoval said.
After he ran out of the store, police were called and the 19-year-old was arrested at his home.
His girlfriend told police that they had been arguing about the upbringing of their son and which gang he should belong to. The teen mother, who is black, is a member of the Crips. Manzanares is Hispanic and belongs to the Westside Ballers gang, the woman said.
“They have different ideas on how the baby should be raised. Basically, she said they cannot agree on which gang the baby would ‘claim,’” Sandoval said.
Nothing about the kid being rescued by DFS/CPS? In spite of the fact that both his father and mother are self-admitted gang members, and admit they want their son to join a gang. If the kid wanted to join the gang, and the parents would have spanked him for doing so, to dissuade him perpetually from that notion, DFS/CPS would have swooped in like ducks on a june bug. If these two wanted to adopt a baby, their application would become a perennial joke among adoptive services professionals. Maybe the only hope for the kid having a stable upbringing is if the Crips and the Westside Ballers merge.
Note that the kid is 4 and daddy is 19, do the math. No telling how old mama is.
UPDATE 4/12: The mother is currently 19 as well, according to the Denver Post.

(1) Loose lips do a lot more than sink ships. The grandson of an 84-year old homeowner in ESL ran his mouth to a bunch of his cronies about all the guns grandpa had in his house. So four of said cronies, one adult and three juveniles, knocked back the house, and one of them held a gun to the elderly man’s head while the others searched for the guns. Luckily, they did not find them, and all four of them were popped and canned. Meanwhile, the ATF still obsesses over straw purchases.
(2) If you were a regular patron of the “Best Fish House” on MLK in ESL, be of good cheer: That might have been the truth about the fish, but evidently cocaine was also on the menu. Then again, why wouldn’t it be? The proprietor/drug peddler has Federal drug convictions and Federal prison time in his past. He will soon and again be a fish.

In Chicago, Youth Violence Prompts Clampdown
(snip)
On Tuesday, hundreds of Chicago public school students from four high schools gathered downtown to protest the violence and to call for more gun-control measures, with the school district sanctioning their absences and supplying buses, the Associated Press reported. Twenty empty school desks, each representing a fallen student, were set up in front of the James R. Thompson Center, which houses state offices.
It wasn’t a protest against violence, it was a CPS-provoked gun control march. Trouble is, handguns are already banned in Chicago. What next, a women’s suffrage march?
Also, you know he would be in the middle of this:
A well-known anti-violence crusader on the South Side, the Rev. Michael Pfleger, had also planned a community rally Tuesday, and said St. Sabina Catholic Church will offer rewards for information about the killings.
If you don’t know by now why the first fourteen words of that sentence are a punchline, find out right here.

Illinois state rep. robbed in her home
East St. Louis — State Rep. Wyvetter Younge was forced to the ground and robbed at gunpoint in her home in East St. Louis on Friday, authorities said.
At 77, Younge is among the Legislature’s most senior members.

Police canvassed the neighborhood after the robbery, but no arrests had been made as of late Friday, said Master Sgt. Jim Morrisey of the Illinois State Police.
How ironic would it be if a white ISP officer spied the suspect, but didn’t want to pull him over because the incident would sully the officer’s racial profiling stats? Wonder hwo Rep. Younge voted on the bill that prohibited “racial profiling” in the state.

Teen arrested for subway murder
Police are looking for three others
CENTER CITY - March 26, 2008 (WPVI) — Police have arrested one teen and are looking for three others in the death of a man on a Center City subway concourse.
Chopper 6 was overhead as Philadelphia Police went to Simon Gratz High School as part of their investigation. Although police were at the school, no additional arrests were made.
The attack happened at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon in the concourse located at 13th and Market streets.
Police say four teenaged suspects attacked Sean Patrick Conroy, 36. A SEPTA police officer standing on the opposite platform saw what was happening.
“He saw four black juveniles around one white male. He saw the gentleman making a defensive stance, as if he was guarding himself,” said Captain Steve Harold.
Notice that the weapons were human appendages, not guns, or knives, or anything that politicians think need to be banned, so the loud silence from the gun grabber lobby is not surprising. But note that there is no boo-hooing from Official Philadelphia, no calls for more recreation centers and more police and more spy cameras and more conflict resolution, no handstand parades, and certainly no whispering about interracial hate. After all, the victim is merely a disposable white man, no real humans were hurt.

AP:
Chicago battles rise in teen deaths
CHICAGO - The morning trip to school for dozens of teenagers here had all the normal signs: bleary eyes, oversized jackets zipped up against the chill, the seemingly endless wait for the bus. But there was tension underlying the routine: The trip was under the watchful eyes of parents, an alderman, a principal and police. The escort to and from Crane Tech High School this week, dubbed “Operation Safe Passage” is just one of the ways Chicago is dealing with a wave of violence that has stunned the city.
Since September, 20 Chicago Public Schools students have been killed, 18 by gunfire. Last school year, 24 of the more than 30 students killed were shot to death, compared with between 10 and 15 fatal shootings in the years before.
“The loss of life that we’ve seen among our young people is … devastating,” said school district spokesman Michael Vaughn. “This gun nonsense has reached a crisis level.”
Well, then, arrest the guns. Chicago has banned handguns, so it’s not like they would be treading on shaky legal ground by doing so.
The number of violent deaths involving students in the nation’s third-largest school district has increased so dramatically in the last two years that police are increasing school patrols and soon will be the first department in the country with live access to thousands of security cameras mounted outside — and inside — schools.
(snip)
Daley recently announced a new resource for police — access to the 4,500 security cameras mounted inside and outside about 200 elementary and high schools.
Ask people at a certain Brooklyn housing project how well those cameras are working.
Daley also has rolled back the curfew times for minors by half an hour, to 10 p.m. on weekdays and 11 p.m. on weekends.
Because enforcing murder laws in Chicago is so easy, making minors go inside a half hour earlier will be a cinch.
Antigun activists and officials say the violence highlights a dangerous reality: Arguments among young people that used to be resolved with fistfights now end in gunfire.
“They’re just shooting out of rage,” said the Rev. Michael Pfleger, an outspoken priest on the city’s South Side whose church is putting up a $2,500 reward for information each time a CPS student is killed. The Chicago Board of Education has promised to match with its own $2,500 reward.
Oh yeah, there’s a real credible voice. We’re supposed to believe that someone who made violent threats can stop Chicago’s culture of violence.
“A lot of young guys in the community, first of all, would rather get caught with a gun than without a gun,” Hardiman said. “There’s a need a dire need for more conflict resolution training.”
Because it’s working so well, let’s do more of it.

If you’re in New York, and know who this man is, the NYPD would like you to help them catch up with him. You see, he was allegedly able to commit two rapes in a Brooklyn housing project, in spite of the fact that there are surveillance cameras everywhere.
PC politicians would love to have cameras covering every square foot of their jurisdictions, and almost that many uniformed police officers. But it won’t mean anything, because the cops are the ones with civil rights handcuffs on, and black juries won’t believe the evidence recorded by the cameras. Turns out that Big Brother is all bark and no bite, unless you commit a serious crime, like smoking a cigarette outdoors too close to a public building. If only George Orwell had Sam Francis to school him on Anarcho-Tyranny, then 1984 would read more accurately today.
SCOTUS: White People Can’t Be Good Jurors March 19, 2008

Sup. Ct. overturns La. murder conviction
The Supreme Court sent a message to prosecutors and judges Wednesday that it will cast a skeptical eye on the exclusion of blacks from juries.
The justices, by a 7-2 vote, threw out a death sentence and murder conviction because a Louisiana prosecutor kept blacks off the jury in a trial he called his “O.J. Simpson case.”
While the high court has ruled previously that jurors cannot be excused solely because of their race, the practice has continued, often with the approval of judges, legal scholars said.
“Courts have consistently been willing to accept any explanation, however farfetched, as to why the exclusion of a minority juror wasn’t actually based on race,” Hofstra University law professor Eric M. Freedman said.
The court’s ruling Wednesday indicates judges should be less accepting of prosecutors’ explanations, Freedman said.
The justices said state prosecutor Jim Williams improperly excluded blacks from the jury that convicted Allen Snyder of killing his estranged wife’s companion. Snyder is black and the jurors were white.
Justice Samuel Alito, writing for the majority, said the trial judge should have blocked Williams from barring a black juror. Alito’s opinion made no mention of Simpson.
Justices Clarence Thomas and Antonin Scalia dissented. Thomas said he would not “second-guess” the judge.
This is a huge shot across the bough for prosecutors and juror selection. This ruling, combined with the Federal prohibition on prosecutorial preemptive dismissals of potential jurors who are the same race as the defendant, virtually guarantees that non-white criminal defendants will have at least one of their racial brethren on the jury. Nullification, anyone?
This decision also means that SCOTUS thinks that white people are too stupid and bigoted to judge black defendants, and that SCOTUS is able to read the minds of prosecutors.
It won’t be that much longer until the legitimate justice system will be able to get a conviction against any black criminal defendant in a jurisdiction that has a significant black population, e.g. most major cities. The juries won’t convict them, so there’s no reason for the defendants to take a plea deal.

Fla. gunman’s motive remains a mystery
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The life of the gunman who went on a rampage in a fast-food restaurant may have been as chaotic as his final violent act.
Court records and interviews show that Alburn Edward Blake was once accused of kicking a girlfriend who called him “demented.” He somehow married a woman he had never met without her consent, and sometimes used a Social Security number that had belonged to a dead man.
A surveillance video shows Blake entering the Wendy’s during the lunch rush Monday and going straight to the bathroom, authorities said Tuesday. He emerged minutes later and fatally shot a paramedic who had gone back into the restaurant to exchange a kid’s meal toy his child had received.
(snip)
They say they are no closer to determining what set off Blake, a 60-year-old handyman from Jamaica who lived in West Palm Beach.
(snip)
Blake married his wife, Deborah, in 1989, according to records, but there is no record they divorced. He also married a woman, Tangela Kemp, in 1987, and wasn’t officially divorced until 1993, records show.
(snip)
Records show Blake owned a maintenance and handyman company until 2003, but authorities said he is believed to have been unemployed at the time of the shooting. Authorities can’t explain his use of the Social Security number that belonged to a Wisconsin man who died three decades ago.

Kenya police fire teargas to halt gang protest
Kenyan police fired teargas on Wednesday to scatter street protests by hundreds of young men demanding the release of a former leader of the outlawed Mungiki gang from prison.
Police in riot gear chased the protesters through downtown Nairobi, frightening residents still on edge after post-election violence which killed more than 1,000 people and forced 300,000 from their homes.
“We demand the immediate release of Maina Njenga and his cars, which were impounded by the police,” a statement given to Reuters by a rioter said.
John Maina Njenga, a former leader and founder member of the Mungiki criminal gang, is serving a five-year sentence for possession of an illegal firearm.
(snip)
According to local media, Njenga renounced the gang while in prison, saying he had become a born-again Christian.
Then why are all these young men (presumably fellow gangsters) demanding that they want him sprung? This reminds me of the time leading up to Stanley “Tookie” Williams being dispatched to his just reward more than two years ago. We were supposed to believe that he renounced the Crips gang he founded, yet there were all these threats of violence and retribution from the Crips upon his execution.
Corrections Policy That Actually Corrects February 28, 2008

Report: 1 In Every 99 Americans Now Behind Bars
Don’t ask the U.S. prison system if this is indeed “the land of the free.”
For the first time in history, more than one in every 100 American adults is in jail or prison, according to a new report tracking the surge in inmate population.
The report, released Thursday by the Pew Center on the States, said the 50 states spent more than $49 billion on corrections last year, up from less than $11 billion 20 years earlier. The rate of increase for prison costs was six times greater than for higher education spending, the report said.
Using updated state-by-state data, the report said 2,319,258 adults were held in U.S. prisons or jails at the start of 2008 — one out of every 99.1 adults, and more than any other country in the world.
(snip)
Susan Urahn, managing director of the Pew Center on the States, said budget woes are prompting officials in many states to consider new, cost-saving corrections policies that might have been shunned in the recent past for fear of appearing soft in crime.
“We’re seeing more and more states being creative because of tight budgets,” she said in an interview. “They want to be tough on crime, they want to be a law-and-order state — but they also want to save money, and they want to be effective.”
I can think of some old, cost-saving corrections policies. But actually proposing them would be taboo, and actually doing them would violate Federal civil rights acts. And they would also have the added detriment of actually working, and deterring crime among certain populations, and precluding the necessity of a state prison in every town.
I’ll give you a hint — Mississippi in 1900 had the lowest murder rate of any state in the union. Mississippi in 2000 had the highest murder rate of any state in the union.

Programs for urban blacks lauded
(snip)
The report, released today by the Eisenhower Foundation, a policy group formed by a former Kerner Commission member and former staff members, makes recommendations:
•Increase funding for national programs such as Head Start, which promotes early childhood education; Safe Haven and Quantum Opportunities, which offer after-school tutoring and mentoring; and the Gemeinschaft Home, a residential program in Harrisonburg that helps inmates make the transition from prison.
Head Start seems to be successful, but it’s only because black children receive it in a time in their lives when their average intellectual development is higher than that of whites, because black babies and children tend to mature more quickly than whites. But once they do, they level off and fall behind whites as a measure of central tendency through the late single-digit years and the teenage years.
•Raise the federal minimum wage from the current $5.85 an hour.
So, blacks are only worth the minimum wage? Even I don’t agree with that.
•Create a federal Employment Training and Job Creation Act.
Ever hear of CETA? That Federal boondoggle of affirmative action make-work was dispatched in the Reagan era.
The report does not put a price tag on its proposals.
Of course. Nothing is too dear for our diverse population.
“We know what works,” says Alan Curtis, the foundation’s president, who wrote the report. “It’s a matter of having the political will to do it.”
I agree. I know what works, and that it’s simply a matter of having the political will to do it. But what does that have to do with anything he is proposing?
The report finds that from 1980 through 2000, three times as many black men went to prison as went to college. In 2000, half of the 800,000 black men in prison did not have the literacy skills needed in the job market.
The solution is easy — just transfer those black men from prison to Harvard.

And predictably, your CofCC gets part of a paragraph:
And some even see hints that Obama may be leading a national black uprising. “Are blacks becoming more hostile towards whites?” asked a recent entry at the … Council of Conservative Citizens website. The author, citing the early February rampage by a black gunman near St. Louis, Missouri, advised that “the success of the Obama campaign might be emboldening blacks to be more aggressive towards white[s] on a national scale.”
Actually, that needs a little clarification. By himself, Barack Hussein Obama (sorry, John McCain, for using his middle name) is a plastic banana and an empty suit. I would no sooner expect him to succeed in leading a black uprising than I would for him to hang the moon. The point made at Dot Org in that blog post is that many black Americans, particularly in the lower classes, might be “feeling their oats” and becoming more arrogant and flippant (”we’z takin’ over, cracker”), simply because a black man is so close to becoming President. I would expect those sort of people to have that kind of attitude even if the black candidate was the Tommiest of Toms, e.g. Clarence Thomas.

Larry Davis, serving 25 years to life on a murder conviction in an unrelated case, was stabbed to death around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday during a recreational break at Shawangunk Correctional Facility in Ulster County, said Erik Kriss, a spokesman for the state Department of Correctional Services.
Davis was stabbed repeatedly with a 12-inch long, half-inch wide homemade metal shank in the arms, head, back, upper thigh and chest, Kriss said.

The secret CIA/CofCC plot to assassinate the noted community activist and social justice advocate known as Mumia Abu-Jamal is closer to fruition. The secret CIA operatives, who have the outward appearances of members of the Pennsylvania State Supreme Court, rejected a defense attempt to nullify the testimony of prosecution witnesses whom the defense now thinks perjured themselves.

She just pretended to have 18 children in order to pocket £24,000 in British welfare system benefits.
For her trouble, she gets the harsh and severe punishment of one year in jail. Who says crime doesn’t pay? The judge in the case blames the welfare system’s auditors for not raising red flags. In other words, the judge essentially slapped the scammer on the hand, and blamed the victims. Actually, if the welfare system’s auditors would have become suspicious, and spoke out, they would have been accused of racism and bigotry by Britain’s infamous PC politburo.
How would you like it if your car was stolen, the cops catch the thief, and the judge gives the thief a light sentence, then yells you out for forgetting to lock your car door?
