Outsourcing for the Outbound March 28, 2008

The Government Printing Office (GPO) has outsourced the manufacturing of e-passports claiming that no U.S. companies makes necessary parts. Currently, blank passport covers are inserted with computer chips in Europe and then shipped to Thailand. (Islamic extremist groups are known to be active in Thailand.) Next, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) antenna are inserted, and then the blank covers are shipped to the U.S. for binding. GPO Inspector General J. Anthony Ogden has warned the agency that there are “significant deficiencies with the manufacturing of blank passports, security of components, and the internal controls for the process.”
Michael Savage had a guest last night that went through this issue. The two most likely theories are: (1) The GPO is looking to cut expenses. (2) Somebody important is on the take from Thailand’s hired lobbyists.

In 2006, Connerly went to Michigan to overturn an affirmative action policy that kept Jennifer Gratz out of the University of Michigan, though she had superior grades and performance records than many minority students admitted. The Michigan proposition also carried and has been upheld by the courts.
One U.S. senator, however, taped an ad denouncing Connerly’s Proposition 2 in Michigan and endorsed affirmative action for minorities and women. That senator was Barack Obama.
