Leprosy outbreak causes concerns in Northwest Arkansas
SPRINGDALE - The medical community is warning the public: a leprosy outbreak in Springdale could blossom into an epidemic, if something isn’t done soon.
Doctors say at least nine cases of leprosy have been confirmed in Springdale. Local doctors say they would be shocked by even one case of leprosy in their entire career, so they say something must be done soon, in order to stop leprosy’s spread.

Medical specialists say the Marshall Islands have the most cases of leprosy, in the world. And the city with the largest number of Marshallese people, outside the Marshall islands, is Springdale. And Bingham says, it makes sense, then, that leprosy is spreading to the city. “It’s from the Marshall islands; that’s why we’re seeing it.”
Bingham says she is all for Marshallese people entering the United States, after proper medical tests.
Dr. Bingham: If we can’t have “national origin” restrictions for immigration, because they are bigoted, then why should we have medical tests? Wouldn’t they be just as prejudiced against the ill?

Mandatory School Spanish Classes Anger Texas Parents
A Texas school district is reviewing its second-language requirement after concerns over students being forced to learn Spanish, according to reports.
Some parents at Timberline Elementary School in Grapevine, Texas, are outraged their children have to take Spanish as a mandatory second-language requirement, MyFOXDFW.com reported.
Leigh Allison, the mother of fifth-grader Ashleigh, said the policy makes life easier for Hispanic immigrants and her daughter shouldn’t be forced to conform, according to a report on Star-Telegram.com.
What’s the problem? Spanish is the language spoken in Mexico.

Somalian woman stabs pilots mid-air on New Zealand flight
A Somalian woman tried to stab two pilots mid-air and threatened to blow up the aircraft as she grappled with controls in the cockpit of a New Zealand domestic flight today.
The 33-year-old, named in media reports today as Asha Ali Abdille, also inflicted a minor knife injury on a woman passenger and threatened others as she demanded to be flown to Australia. The other six passengers were unharmed.
Police said that Ms Abdille was tampering with the controls of the twin-engine turboprop as it was coming in to land at Christchurch, on the South Island, but rough weather conditions caused her to stumble.

Ms Abdille was born in Sudan but grew up in Somalia. When fighting began in Mogadishu in 1991, she was separated from her family and eventually flown to New Zealand in 1994 as a refugee

A taxi driver says Ms Abdille had seemed “vague” when he took her to Blenheim airport. The driver, who identified himself as Colin, told New Zealand radio: “She was a wee bit vague. He described her as “away with the fairies.”
Something should go “away,” but it’s something more real for New Zealand than the fairies in Miss Abdille’s head.

Restricting Panhandling
St. Louis aldermen will soon begin consideration of a proposed ordinance that would restrict a certain kind of begging — the bullying demands for money by one person or a group of people that make other people apprehensive. If the bill passes, that sort of activity – called aggressive panhandling — will be more clearly illegal, and it will receive a higher police priority for enforcement.
Tick tock — waiting for the black aldermen and the civil rights and community activist groups in this town to complain about disparate racial impact.

Does this surprise anyone?
Mr. Purvis used his 6′6″ frame to choke an 18-year old man and slam his head onto a table at Hebron High School in Carrollton, Texas. It won’t be too much longer that some state government takes his 6′6″ frame and tosses it in some prison. I’m betting it won’t be much longer before the other four join him and Mr. Bell.
