It Used to Be a “Peace Center” February 1, 2008

San Francisco voters will vote on Tuesday whether to convert Alactraz Island into a “Global Peace Center,” and replace the former Federal prison with an “International Conference Center For Non-Violent Conflict Resolution.”
Actually, in its previous life, Alcatraz did contribute to the causes of peace and non-violence. Because the Federal government sent certain men to Alcatraz Island, the places where those men used to live became all the more peaceful and all the less violent for it.
