Big Business Pushes to Keep its Cheap Labor Free from ICE Enforcement December 4, 2007

Dozens of attorneys from some of the nation’s most powerful law firms have united to create a task force that will come to the aid of undocumented immigrants, NBC11’s Damian Trujillo reported Monday.
The 60 attorneys from 14 law firms have said they will face the government head-on — challenging the legality of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids.
The list of law firms includes Dechert LLP, Wilson Sonsini, Skadden-Arps and Orrick, Herrington & Suttcliffe, according to Trujillo.
Because no legal action or representation is cheap, and I hardly think that these “most powerful law firms” can’t afford such money pits forever if they were doing this work pro bono, common sense dictates that they’re getting money from parties that have a vested interest in keeping illegal aliens in the country.
And so they are:
The firms count Yahoo, Hewlett -Packard, Sun Microsystems and many other Fortune 500 companies among their clients.
ICE isn’t taking it lying down:
In a statement ICE said:
“As a country, we welcome law-abiding immigrants, but those who violate our laws and commit crimes against our citizens should understand that ICE is going to use all of its tools to find you and send you home.”
Oh how I wish that were true. Bush/Myers are doing their part to make sure it isn’t.
Mark Silverman is with the Immigrant Legal Resource Center in San Francisco, which is working with the attorneys involved in the task force.
“We are not trying to make ICE’s job difficult,” Silverman said. “We just want ICE to do their job by conforming to the U.S. Constitution.”
Contrast this with the rhetoric in this article that suggests that these lawyers think that ICE shouldn’t pull any raids at all.

Lou Dobbs Coming to Talk Radio December 4, 2007

United Stations Radio Networks, which already syndicates minute-long radio financial world updates by Lou Dobbs, will now give him three hours a day, five days a week. He’s going to get 3-6 PM ET, (2-5 PM Central), which means he’s taking Sean Hannity head-on.
Let’s see. On one side, we have someone who arrived at a populist/nationalist viewpoint by conversion, after years of shilling for the corporate establishment, and finally getting disgusted with corporate greed and governmental treason. On the other side, we have someone who is especially adept at reading RNC press releases.
Advantage Dobbs.
