It’s Just as Well — Our Christmas is Made in China These Days October 5, 2007

Reuters:

Boy Scouts recall lead-tainted Chinese badges

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Boy Scouts of America said on Friday it is recalling more than a million badges worn by young Cub Scouts because of a lead paint danger.

The made-in-China plastic “totem” badges are painted blue and yellow with the words “Progress Toward Ranks.” Cub Scouts aged 7 and 8 normally wear them on their shirt pockets.

“During a routine test of products, the Boy Scouts’ supply group discovered lead paint” on the badges, said Gregg Shields, national spokesman for the Boy Scouts of America.

(snip)

Shields said, “We test all products we receive directly from China and we’ve been testing other products from suppliers that bring them in from China… This is the first of 94 items we’ve tested so far to come back with excessive lead.”

And I thought the Democrats and their pro-homosexual agenda were the greatest threat to American Scouting. If we ever have a trade embargo with China, the only kind of equipment and uniforms that the Boy Scouts will have are those which they were born with.

Another Leftist Study, The Same Results October 5, 2007

White countries on top, black countries on the bottom.

Agence France Presse:

The Nordic countries are the world’s greenest and, despite the cold winters, Finland is the best country to live in, according to a Reader’s Digest study released on Friday.

Finland was followed by Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Austria.

Maybe countries like Finland, Iceland and Norway are so livable BECAUSE they’re so cold, meaning that, until very recently, only white people wanted to live there, and the persistent cold had a natural eugenic effect on any people that chose to settle there and forge civilization there.

“Finland wins high marks for air and water quality, a low incidence of infant disease and how well it protects citizens from water pollution and natural disasters,” the study said.

The United States was 23rd on the list of 141 countries, Britain was 25th and China 84th. Nations at the bottom of the table were all African.

Stockholm scored as the best city to live in out of 72 major metropolitan hubs, followed by Oslo, Munich and Paris. Four German cities won a spot in the top 10 list. New York was 15th and London 27th.

The dirtiest cities were in Asia, with Beijing, host of next summer’s Olympic, at the bottom because of its air pollution.

The study was conducted by U.S. environmental economist Matthew Kahn, who looked at issues such as quality of drinking water and greenhouse gas emissions as well as factors such as education and income.

It’s Official. German Chancellor Angela Merkel Is Useless. October 5, 2007

The headline says this:

Zimbabwe a disaster, Merkel tells South Africa’s Mbeki

But then the first few paragraphs say this:

PRETORIA (AFP) - Robert Mugabe is presiding over a disaster in Zimbabwe but should still be entitled to attend a forthcoming Europe-Africa summit, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Friday.

Summing up talks in Pretoria with President Thabo Mbeki, who is a mediator between Zimbabwe’s opposition and President Mugabe’s ruling party, Merkel said she had made clear her disquiet about the situation across South Africa’s northern border.

“The situation is a very difficult one. It’s a disastrous one, which I very clearly stated in our conversation,” the German leader told a press conference with Mbeki during her first sub-Saharan Africa tour.

She declined to back calls for Mugabe to be barred from a summit between African Union and European Union leaders in Lisbon in December, which British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has threatened to boycott if the Zimbabwean head of state attends.

Remember, the EU-wide travel ban against Mugabe and his chief regime lieutenants is supposedly the EU’s great punishment for his anti-white near-genocidal and dispossessionist policies for his country. If Merkel, a representative of Germany’s center-right political party, can’t even bring herself to enforce that putrid and laughable “punishment,” then she might as well praise Mugabe, because she is demonstrating herself to be a fangless snake. Does she actually think that Mugabe is afraid of her verbal condemnation?

And what’s with this business of her talking with President Mbeki of South Africa about the disaster that is Zimbabwe? Like South Africa itself is paradise? South Africa is about one decade behind Zimbabwe in its own degeneration and anti-white dispossession.

St. Louis Post-Dispatch:

A little more than a month into the school year, DeMont Coleman is leaning toward majoring in Michael Jordan with a minor in Shaquille O’Neal. An alternative option — pro wrestling — is still on the table.

Whatever avenue DeMont chooses, he’s already a player in the struggle to reform the St. Louis Public Schools.

DeMont’s venue is a fourth-grade classroom at Des Peres Big Picture Elementary School in the city’s Central West End.

One of three Big Picture schools to open in St. Louis in August, Des Peres embraces the nationally acclaimed program’s concept of designing “learning plans” tailored to the interests of individual students.

For DeMont, that translates into an initial curriculum that will likely revolve around professional basketball.

If DeMont selects the basketball track, his adviser, Katie Casas, will hinge his math assignments on tabulations of Jordan’s point totals; his science assignments will examine the muscles that literally elevated Jordan above the competition; and social studies assignments will track the cities Jordan visited during his basketball career (geography) and the circumstances that brought him to the league (history).

One by one, each of DeMont’s 71 Des Peres schoolmates — from kindergarten through sixth grade — will huddle with their advisers to devise custom learning agendas. Their counterparts at the Turner Branch Big Picture Middle School and the Kottmeyer Big Picture High School will do the same.

Oh, good, there’s a high school modeled after this pedagogy. That said, let me suggest for them a math question:

Question: The Federal sentencing guidelines for those convicted of crack cocaine possession with intent to distribute is ten years per kilo. The Federal prison system mandates that you serve at least 10 months out of every 12 you’re sentenced to before you can be paroled. A cop pulls you over and finds two kilos of cocaine in your trunk. How much time are you going to spend at Club Fed?

Answer: 16 years and 8 months.

KELO-11 Sioux Falls:

Student-Run Club Is Questioned

A new group at Roosevelt High School discusses socialism every Thursday morning. Not everyone is comfortable with the Young Socialist Club’s views, but federal law says school districts must allow all student organizations.

The Young Socialists Club at Roosevelt High School is looking for new members. Their flyer asks for students to quote “Come explore the vast realm that is socialism.” But also on the flyer is a picture of Karl Marx, who is best known as a revolutionary communist. One of his famous quotes, “Workers of the World Unite,” is printed boldly on the handout. But Roosevelt Principal Don Ryswyk says those references do not concern him.

He says, “At Roosevelt we have young Democrats club, we have the young Republicans club and they were asking for a young Socialists club and so I saw it as an equity issue and the students talked to me about some of the things they were going to research and I also saw it as an educational club.”

(snip)

But he says if a club harms students, or is based on hate, it will not be accepted.
Ryswyk says, “I’m not going to allow a club into my school that’s gonna be harmful or hateful or anything like that and there needs to be some good.”

A member of the Socialists group says they will discuss all forms of socialism which includes communism, but they are *not a communist group. Student run clubs are appointed a monitor and Ryswyk says the socialist’s club monitor has *not had any concerns.

Not communist? Then why all this glorification of Karl Marx?

What I think the administration of Sioux Falls, S.D.’s Roosevelt H.S. is concerned about is not that the Young Socialists Club is ideologically abhorrent, but that its existence is redundant with the school’s Young Democrats Club.

Anthony Allen, 24, is now accused of the murder of a clerk of a convenience store on Ivory in far south St. Louis.  Notice Mr. Allen’s address, which is also in far south St. Louis, or should I say occupied south St. Louis.  Ole Dutchtown just ain’t what it used to be.
