When Did the MSM Quit Doing These Things? August 10, 2007

National Policy Institute:

Editor’s Note: A steady stream of mainstream journalists are moving to, and in some cases moving back to, ethnic media. Despite pay cuts, they have opportunities to fulfill a passion they were unable to in mainstream media, reports NAM contributor Kenneth J. Cooper. Cooper is a Pulitzer Prize winner and freelance journalist based in Boston.

Howard Manly walked away from his op-ed column in the Boston Herald, a tabloid daily, and into the executive editor’s office at the Bay State Banner, a black weekly in the city with less than a quarter of the Herald’s circulation of 230,000.

Evelyn Hernández had worked for Newsday, the Miami Herald and Fort Worth Star Telegram, but decided against returning to a mainstream newspaper after a stint in academia. Instead, she took over as opinion page editor and editorial writer at El Diario/La Prensa, a Spanish-language daily in New York City.

In recent years, a noticeable number of veteran African-American and Latino journalists like Manly and Hernández have made an unusual mid-career transition, leaving behind general-interest media for newspapers, magazines, websites and broadcast outlets oriented to their racial or ethnic groups. Some younger journalists who haven’t gotten much traction at mainstream media are also making the switch.

Journalists say they made the move to fulfill a passion for providing journalism tailored to their minority group, assume supervisory roles that were unavailable to them in mainstream outlets and contribute to strengthening ethnic media that are traditionally short on financial and professional resources.

When did the MSM quit becoming “journalism tailored for” blacks and Hispanics? They have been almost nothing but for all of my conscious lifetime, and much longer before that. They don’t call the major newspaper in Los Angeles the “L.A.tino Times” for nothing.

Federal Bankruptcy Judge Forces “Your Black Muslim Bakery” to Become the “Creditors’ Black Muslim Bakery” August 10, 2007

San Francisco Chronicle:

A federal judge on Thursday ordered Your Black Muslim Bakery, a 40-year-old purveyor of all-natural desserts that has been linked to the slaying of an Oakland journalist, to liquidate its assets.

U.S. bankruptcy Judge [*****] rejected a request by the troubled Oakland bakery to dismiss bankruptcy proceedings, saying the bakery’s management problems are getting worse, not better.

“I think every fact dictates in favor of Chapter 7,” he said. “The circumstances are the same or worse than they have been. Management problems are certainly no better.”

This is why I can’t link to the actual story, because it contains the name of the judge. After that outfit was linked to murders of a MSM journalist critical of their activity, this judge wouldn’t be in any less risk.

The business is more than $900,000 in debt to the IRS, individual creditors and Davis Mortgage Investment Fund of Oakland. Its assets are about $1.9 million, according to its Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in October.

This is not counting that $1.2 million loan the Feds made to it for educational programs which never happened, and the loan was never repaid.

The bakery’s chief executive, Yusuf Bey IV, 21, is in custody on kidnapping charges after his arrest Friday in a police raid on the bakery, which was shuttered.

Another bakery employee, handyman Devaughndre Broussard, 19, was later arrested and police say he confessed to last Thursday’s slaying of journalist Chauncey Bailey, editor of the weekly Oakland Post, who was investigating the bakery’s bankruptcy proceedings.

(snip)

According to court documents and public records, Your Black Muslim Bakery owes about $200,000 to the IRS; $100,000 to a creditor, Richard Stovall; and $11,000 to another creditor, Patricia Hill. In 2005, the bakery borrowed $625,000 from an Oakland mortgage company, Davis Mortgage Investment Fund.

The bakery did not file W-2 forms to the IRS in 2005 or 2006, and other filings showed discrepancies in wages paid to employees, Patricia Montero, an IRS attorney, told the judge Thursday.

The bakery was closed Aug. 3 by the Alameda County Health Department for health code violations. It is also under investigation by the state Department of Fish and Game for allegedly allowing grease to leak into a storm drain.

Coulter said the bakery’s troubles stem from the inexperience of Bey IV, who took over the business after his father died in 2003. Bey blamed the cash-flow problems on payments due to his father’s dozens of heirs from “several wives,” according to court documents.

In her plea to restructure the business, Coulter said the bakery would renew its contracts with the Oakland Coliseum and Oakland and San Francisco airports, arrange to sell the business and refinance to pay back its debt.

Your Black Muslim Bakery was opened in 1968 by Yusuf Bey, who believed that African Americans needed all-natural food. He became well known in Oakland for his bean pies, sweet rolls and carrot cakes. He died of colon cancer four years ago while awaiting trial on criminal charges of raping a girl.

It was known for those things, and known for owing everyone in the country but me personally, and for its lack of maintenance, and for its founder’s polygamy, and an assassination of a critical black MSM journalist on top of that. The only thing it wasn’t known for apparently was honest accountants.

“Send in the National Guard” August 10, 2007

Would that be a Governor, Senator, Congressman or other politician from a border state?

No, it’s Missouri State Rep. Talibdin “Reparations” El-Amin (D-St. Louis City) stating that the state should send in the National Guard to crime-prone areas of north St. Louis City. Antonio French has text and video.

Commentary:

(1) If the SLPD can’t control north St. Louis such that men and women wearing camouflage have to be called in, I wonder why the SLPD can’t control north St. Louis. It’s because of a generation or more of people like Mr. El-Amin voting for civil rights laws that have turned, and will continue to turn, the law enforcement and criminal justice system into a straw dog.

(2) In this same clip, El-Amin states that he wants “local control” of the SLPD. If he gets his wish, this would mean that the SLPD would be run by the same milieu of white-hating and police-hating black preachers, civil rights activists and welfare-dependent “community activists” that runs City Hall already. The first thing they would do is to implement a crippling civilian review board. However unable the SLPD are to control north St. Louis now, it’ll be far worse under city control.

(3) What about Mayor Slay’s caterwauling that crime is down? You don’t call in the National Guard for “crime is down.”

Homelessness: A problem that liberal Democrats and the MSM grossly exaggerate during the October of even-numbered years in order to blame Republicans and encourage people to elect liberal Democrats, but something that is supposedly not a problem in the hearts of cities that liberal Democrats actually run.

Newark Authorites Nab Suspects in Schoolyard Executions August 10, 2007

KSDK-NBC-5:

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — A 28-year-old man and a teenage boy were charged Thursday in the execution-style schoolyard killings of three college students and the wounding of another, a crime that has outraged this violence-marred city

The arrests came within hours of each other, with police taking the 15-year-old boy into custody Wednesday night and the man, Jose Carranza, surrendering to the mayor on Thursday.

“We believe that others were involved in this heinous crime,” Essex County Prosecutor Paula T. Dow said. “We’re looking for them.”

Community activists, meanwhile, urged racial calm after the arrest of a Hispanic man — Carranza — in the slayings of the three young black students.

“The kind of violence that happens in Newark is random. There has never been any animosity between blacks and Latinos,” said Ras Baraka, principal of Central High School in Newark and the son of New Jersey’s former poet laureate, Amiri Baraka.

I covered the story on another medium, and initially speculated that the four victims really weren’t innocent bystanders. Because it seems now that this was a Hispanic-on-black murder, that the motive for the crimes could very well be racial hatred.

If there truly is no “animosity between blacks and Latinos” in Newark, then it must have materialized all of a sudden before last Saturday night.

UPDATE 7:10 PM:  The local politicians and the MSM speak of this for the tragedy that it was, but there wasn’t 1% of this moral indignation over the Christian-Newsom murders in Knoxville; the local politician/MSM angle there is that “only white supremacists” are making a big deal of it, and by no means was it a hate crime (and they’re not bothering to find out if it was).  Evidently, some victims of brutal murders are more equal than others.  Also, the early returns on the blabbering from Newark politicians has nothing to do with the fact that the suspect is an illegal alien, but about how the gun did it.

“Bell Curve” Co-Author Encourages Aristocracy in Australia August 10, 2007

The Australian:

CONTROVERSIAL American political scientist Charles Murray is urging Australians to ditch egalitarianism as a central tenet of the national culture and to recognise that the country’s future is in the hands of the best and brightest.

Dr Murray will tell a forum in Sydney next week that the smartest young Australians are being short-changed by an education system that puts a child’s emotional wellbeing ahead of learning.

“We’re taking these bright kids and coddling the little darlings,” Dr Murray told The Australian. “We placate them because we’re a society which says nobody can be stupid, even if they are.”

Dr Murray is best known for his book The Bell Curve, co-authored with Richard Herrnstein, which caused a storm by linking race and IQ.

“Australians talk about this tall-poppy syndrome without understanding where it comes from,” he said. “It is based on the idea that we’re all equal. Well, I’ve got news for you — we’re not all equal and the sooner we accept that, the better. There’s nothing wrong with being elitist and we need to come to terms with that and embrace it.”

Dr Murray will address a Centre for Independent Studies ideas forum, In Praise of Elitism, next Monday.

Actually, in the verve to make people think that nobody can be stupid, the reality is that education policy, at least in the USA, means that (in theory) nobody can be smart. Since you can’t make the stupid smart, a truly egalitarian society would try to dumb down the intelligent. For instance, a Federal education dollar is 3750 times more likely to be spent on the stupid than the smart.

Dr. Murray is right. Cognitive elitism is almost solely responsible for the exponentially higher standard of living and quality of life that human beings have today compared to earlier centuries. Egalitarianism and its associated dysgenics will be the reason why, at this rate, in several centuries, it will all go down the tube.

They Forgot Something August 10, 2007

KING-NBC-5 Seattle:

Left to right: Jarrelle Marshall, Daniel Harris, Cyril Waldrond.

TACOMA - For anyone who watched the arraignment of Mount Tahoma High School students Daniel Harris, 18, Cyril Walrond, 17, and Jarrelle Marshall, 16, it’s hard to believe they are charged with first degree murder and first-degree burglary in two separate attacks.

“It wasn’t my nephew or his friends,” said Marcella Edwards, Marshall’s aunt.

“The charges won’t stick,” said his uncle, Malcolm Nichols. “He just don’t have that mentality. He’s a good kid.”

Just “good kid?” What about honor roll student, three-sport “afawete,” and aspiring rapper, who just happened to fall in with the wrong crowd, and fell victim to all the guns, drugs, abandoned buildings and derelict buildings out there on the streets? There ought to be a single key on computer keyboards used by MSM writers that would insert all these things into a document with the press of one button, as often as some people use this excuse, and as often as MSM fall for it.

But charging papers paint a disturbing and detailed picture of the three teens.

Prosecutors say on April 20 at Les Davis Pier, Waldron attacked Carl Schmidt from behind, striking him hard on his head with a sheet rock hammer. Marshall acted as a lookout, while Harris went through Schmidt’s car and stole several items.

Prosecutors say an hour later, the three targeted Dien Huynh when the 55-year-old walked outside his home. Walrond ran him down and repeatedly struck him in the head with a hammer.
Video

The teens stole cash and credit cards.

A relative found Huynh about five hours later on the front porch. He died two nights later at Tacoma General Hospital.

The documents say the teens said they committed the crimes “because they wanted money.”

Charging papers say in Waldronds’ bedroom, police found newspaper articles about the crimes and an article describing the robbery and beating death of 69-year-old Darrel Johnson that occurred in Tacoma in January of 2005.

The documents also say Harris had Schmidt’s baseball hat hanging on his wall “like a souvenir.”

No, they weren’t committing criminal acts, they were just reacting to 400 years of slavery and oppression, though I can’t recall that there were any Vietnamese-American slaveowners.

Tacoma schools spokeswoman Patti Holmgren said all three teens are well-known students at Mount Tahoma.

Holmgren said Harris and Walrond, both seniors, had earned Washington State Achievers scholarships. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation offers the program to eligible students at 16 Achievers High Schools; the scholarships average about $5,000 each year for four years.

Don’t get me started making equivocations to his company’s software. After all, this isn’t my personal soapbox.

Holmgren said all three teens played football and ran track. She said Walrond planned to attend the University of Washington and was recently elected African American Pageant Prince for the student body’s annual festivities.

Now, Mr. Waldrond will be princess of the inmate body.

Here we go. They were two-sport “afawetes.” I thought young people that played sports were more likely to stay out of trouble. Notice these crimes happened on April 20, during the heart of track season. If they all played football and ran track, this meant their winter months were sport-free, and I was expecting that to be used as an excuse if they would have allegedly committed these crimes in January. Evidently, the track program at Mount Tahoma H.S. in Tacoma isn’t that good, in that Messrs. Marshall, Harris and Waldrond would have enough energy on the evening or night after track practice that they can go out and whack two men on the head with a hammer, killing one of them.
